Detecting DHCP server

There are issues happened in my office, and one of them is the rogue dhcp server.
The server is not from our intended configuration.
when we use XP, we usually use free program called dhcpfind, free software from roadkil.net, my favourite for free tools for admin windows, like unstoppable copy program he made.

running application as administrator in regular user login in windows

It’s been an awkward condition in the host I’ve been setting. It is that the application windows live mail unable to run properly in non administrative user. for example, I can’t delete or add contact in user level, but I can do it in administrator level.
There are ways using windows application, but it is not save, since it is still need to insert the password, that it is becomes visible because it is in command prompt. What I’m talking is for windows 2003/xp below, that using runas command to run application using different credential than what currently logging in user.
There are several tools that can do that, here they are:

Even though we doubt it as the source, the windows 7, continue to give pop up warning that windows command processor need to be run, since we already suspect something, we choose no. it happened several times that it started to be annoying.

office 2007 failed to open passworded office 2010 document

You know there are times when something happened in the microsoft office environment.
like this error happenend when you save the document in office 2010 and put a password on the document.
When you try to open it in office 2007 it failed to open.
And the thing the solution is the same when you save passworded document in 2007 and try to open it in in office 2003.

• In Windows Explorer, you right-click a text file, you click Open With, and then you click Microsoft Excel 2007. When Excel 2007 opens, the UTF-8 characters in the file are not interpreted correctly.
  Note This problem does not occur when you click Open on the File menu in Excel 2007.
  
• When you use the NETWORKDAYS function in Excel 2007, Excel 2007 may crash. This problem occurs when the NETWORKDAYS function uses a closed workbook as part of a parameter.
  
• You delete category labels in Excel 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and then you save the file in the .xls format. When you open the file in Excel 2007 without SP1 or in Excel 2003, the category labels are not deleted as expected.
  
• When you try to edit a page number in Print Preview in Excel 2007, Excel 2007 may crash.
  
• When you run the GET.CHART.ITEM macro to retrieve the position of any charts on a chart sheet, incorrect chart point data is returned.
  
• In Excel 2007, a shared workbook is saved in the Excel 97-2003 format and is protected by a password. When you try to open the shared workbook by using Excel 2003, you receive the following error message even though you enter the correct password:
  Excel cannot open this file. The encryption type used is not available, contact the author of the file. More encryption types are available using the High Encryption Pack.
• Incorrect chart point data is returned on a chart sheet or on a worksheet in Excel 2007. This issue occurs when you run the GET.CHART.ITEM macro to retrieve the position of a Pie of Pie chart or a Bar of Pie chart.You cannot resize a drop-down list by using a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) script in Excel 2007.
• The Edit Links dialog box can be taller than the screen, with many links, and there is no way to scroll the list.

changing windows live interface language

so you have windows live essential installed using web installation.
now that sometimes screw up since it will install using the language your system is activated, so the language is not always what we used to.
So how to change the windows essential interface language?
it is simple, use the file named langselector.exe, that is installed with windows live 2011 and 2012.
just go to start menu and in the search column, type the file. (in xp it is run menu).
Just make sure that you close all windows live essential programs before the change can be activated.

Formatting silicon power usb drive (toshiba)

now there is some puzzle on how to format a protected usb drive, this is without any hardware switch for write protected and write able status of flash drive.
my first experience is with this toshiba 8gb flash drive. it was write protected, I could not write it, so I tried to just format it, but windows cannot format it, it said write protected.
I tried to find the switch but found none. so I search google and found a guide here:

But I find this software really easy to use and have good easy to use interface and support command line.
Before I know of this software, every time I would like to convert to PDF file I always use the print to pdf software since it is also easy to use, my preference is cute pdf.

Norton Safety Minder

it is been a long time ~ three years actually~ since i’m looking for a tools to filter the browsing for my company, for free of course.
in the HQ we have gateway, so this thing is covered, but in our branches it is not, since they use modem router from the ISP which has no good filtering.
i’ve tried opendns but since the public ip is dynamic so it was not working, even when i try the companion dyndns it was not working because it said the ip already registered by other user (go figure 😦 ).
now with this new norton product and free, i can finally do the monitoring on the users browsing.

with the good point of:

+ whitelist and blacklist beside conventional , not many parental control have these.

+client base windows user control, so it is hard to bypass.

+ hard to “endtask” since it is not using conventional .exe service.

+internet base, so even when the “children” use several computers, they still monitored as one.

undbx a cure for bloated outlook express file

it really good, up until then i usually use mccallan program to repair the dbx file of outlook express, but since the link to the file is dead (he still got awesome free email server program though).
okay so i change heart to undbx, since it is the only other one free program beside the mccallan.
